DORIS POOLE Obituary

Doris Elaine Thompson Poole was born Thursday, June 7, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA. She was raised in North Philly on 13th Street where she lived for many years with her parents and siblings. As she grew up, she attended Fitzsimons Jr. High followed by Dobbins High. Upon graduation in 1963, she attended Community College where she earned an Associate degree in Criminology.

During this time, she met her and fell for her first love, which later produced her one and only daughter, Stephanie. She was a devoted and protective mother who doted over her beautiful child.

Over the years, she worked as a seamstress and dedicated countless hours gifting to children in need, all while pursuing her greatest passion, cooking from the heart. Doris was an amazing cook who left people raving for miles about her soul food, especially her ribs, sweet potato pies, and carrot cake.

Later, she married Mr. Charles Edward Poole around 1980, in which they spent many exciting and happy years together. During this time, they had many adventures together and were a force to be reckoned with. Together, they earned the nicknames Coffee & The Mac.

As the years went on, she worked as a Head Supervisor at Holy Redeemer Lafayette where she retired after 20 years of service.

Doris spent her life laughing, living to the fullest and traveling to new places including New Orleans, Chicago, New York, Tennessee, Boston, Puerto Rico, Birmingham, Connecticut, Maine, & Hawaii.

Doris had an unforgettable sense of humor that could make anyone laugh. But even more, she had a special way of telling stories and lending advice that comforted and soothed people souls. She was a very spiritual and wise woman who loved everyone just as they were and happily embraced all. She was not just a Grandmother but a best friend to her precious granddaughter who, will forever remember her as her “boo” and her “Gamms”.

She was and will always be fierce and fabulous in her own right!

She was survived by Daughter, Stephanie Dawn Thompson, Son-in-Law Mager Bronson, Granddaughter Savannah R.T. McMillan, and Grandson-in-law Matthew J. McMillan as well as Cousins Josephine Nelson and Ollie Fontaine in addition to a host of nieces, nephews, and additional cousins.
