Betty Burkett Obituary

Betty Jean Burkett was the eldest of her siblings, Shirley Ann Burkett-Nicholson, and Brother Willie Burkett, Jr (Chucky).

Betty was born July 23, 1948 in Philadelphia, PA to parents; the late Deacon Willie James Burkett, Sr, and Deaconess Grace Weaver-Burkett. Betty transitioned peacefully on March 8, 2022.

Betty was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and graduated from Murrell Dobbins Vocational Technical High School. She was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as an Income Maintenance Caseworker for 36 years and worked at the following district offices; South, Elmwood and Disability Advocacy Program (DAP). During Betty's career at Elmwood District, she was honored as "Employee of the Year."

Betty accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Christian Hope Baptist Church where she remained as a member for over sixty years. Betty was an active member of several ministries: Trustees, Presidents of the Prayer Band, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, Teacher; Member of the Missionaries, Usher's board, and Choir. Betty's favorite scripture was Psalm 27:14.

Betty was a devout Christian woman, loved by all.

Betty loved to travel and was a member/treasurer of the Family and Friends Travel Club. Betty made a great impact on all those she met and never hesitated to help those in need. Her generosity and sacrifices surpassed most people. Betty loved her Family, Pastor and First Lady, Church Family and Friends.

Betty leaves to cherish her memories: loving and devoted Sisters; Shirley Burkett-Nicholson (Samuel), Marlita "Precious" Butler, Theodosia "teea" Kelley, Yvonne Canty, Kathres Davis-Orr, and Dolores Millender; loving Brother- Willie "Chucky" Burkett, Jr; nieces- Erica "Pumpkin" Clack (Earl), Marletia Pressley, Kim Beatty; great nephews- Robert Demetrius Clack (Virginia), Eric Deshon Clack; great great nephews- Aiden, King, Ezekiel and Elijah Clack, Tyler Butler, Jr., great great nieces- Grace Clack, Amayah Clack, goddaughters: Tamika Canty, Ashley Hayes, Nicole Gary, godsons: Tyler Butler, Shaun Dedmon, and Eric Harris; cousins: Grace Helen Stevens, Vera Mae Stevens (Best Friend), Rosa Johnson (South Carolina), Tyrone Stevens, Reverend Edmond James Stevens, Jr. and Dr. Katanga McCoy; bestfriends, Eva Dedmon, Valerie Williams, Joyce Paul, Paulette Mobley, Joyce James, reverend Mary Thomas, and a host of additional family and friends.
