Charles Tyler, III Obituary

Charles Freeman Tyler, III was born to Charles Freeman Tyler, II and Myrtle Olivia Tyler on September 9, 1945. Charles was the second child and the first son of his parents. Charles was raised in the Faith Presbyterian Church of Germantown where his grandfather was the founding pastor. Charles attended the Philadelphia Public School system and the Downingtown Industrial Institute. He graduated from Downingtown in 1963.

He was a talented automobile audio specialist until he entered military service in the US Army in 1966. He joined the parachute badge of the 82nd Airborne Division. He served his country honorably and participated in many Vietnam combat campaigns.

After receiving an honorable discharge, he joined Deliverance Evangelistic Church and gave his life to Jesus Christ. There he met his first wife Florie Mae and from that union, two children were born. During this period, he was a milkman for Lehigh Valley Dairy Farms where he served Mt. Airy, Germantown, and the West Oak Lane communities.

He then became a certified insurance agent for United Insurance Company of America. Here he rose to be a top agent in sales. He later moved into cleaning services where he excelled to become an area district manager at Paragon Services Industries. There he managed over 60,000 square feet of office space and as many as over 25 employees. During his time there, he met the true love of his life Gladys and from this union, two children were born.

Later, he became an entrepreneur opening his own commercial cleaning services, where he landed several large contracts including the New Covenant Church of Germantown. Before he retired, he returned to the insurance industry working for companies such as New York Life.

He was well known in the Germantown Mt Airy area because he had an extrovert personality and was very affectionate and loved to talk and interact with his friends and family. He was always willing to go out of his way to assist someone in need. This made him a well-loved staple in the neighborhood. He joined the New Covenant Church where he experienced the delight of being a member of the male chorus and the mass choir. He loved cars, jazz, movies, cats, and traveling. In addition to his family, these were the things that brought joy into his life.

He was preceded in death by his father Charles II; his mother Myrtle Hargrove, Stepfather Floyd Hargrove, sister Louise Cunningham (John), brother Floyd Lee Hargrove (Sandra) and his son Charles IV.

He is survived by his family to mourn his loss; his wife Gladys, his daughters Linda; Sharon (James Sr.); Yeeimy (Salvador); and Jennifer, his sons Charles L. (Jodi); Lyle (Tasha); Lindsay (Yolanda); and Orlando, sisters Marie, and Rosa Vermel Hargrove-Gray, his brothers Page (Denise), and Dereck Hargrove (Andrea); 18 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
