Florence Parker Obituary

Florence Christine Hopson Parker was the first daughter of the late Harold T. Hopson and the late Christine Hopson Laurence.  She was also kown by Florence or (Flossie) by everyone.  She departed this life on

November 14, 2021.

Florence graduated from Ambler High School in 1947.  She married Manuel Parker on April 9, 1949, of Huntsville Alabama.  Out of this union a daughter Renee Elizabeth arrived and later, expanding their family, they welcomed a second daughter Lynnette and a son Barry.

Florence at age thirteen, joined Zion Baptist Church of Ambler Pennsylvania, Pastured by Reverend Fuller Holden.  She was very active in church activities singing in the Youth choir, teaching Sunday School and was a  B.T.U. member.

After many years Florence joined Canaan Baptist Church pastured by Reverend Willard Lamb.  She worked in the Women’s Guild, Semper Paratus Club for 32 years and a member of the Fellowship Choir which she loved.  She was an active member of the Women of Canaan and the Adult Club.

Florence loved to sew and was a supper seamstress. She also taught a six-week temporary Millinery Classes (Hat Making) approved by the Philadelphia Adult Night School program.

Florence was employed at the Fort Washington Dental Association for 29 years. She met many coworkers and their family members over her long years of service.  One family pulled on Florence’s heart strings up through her last day of retirement and beyond.   When Florence first met Joan, John and their babies, Colin and Paul the Parents had each lost their mother leaving their babies without a grandmother.

Florence had retired and had started caring for the children while Joan and John were working and already thought of herself in a way as their grandmother. Because their calls to each other visits and strong family like ties had never wavered through the years since Florence retired.

As time quickly passed by Colin and Paul started School.  One day, one of the little boys came home, told his mother he needed a grandmother because his school was going to have a Grand Mother’s Day. Florence’s phone started to ring shortly after that.  Joan asked Florence if she would like to be Colin and Paul’s grandmother.  Florence said, yes, because already She felt  like your family is her Second family that comes with much love from everyone, Joan and John and two grandsons named Colin and Paul.

Florence loved the Lord. She loved people.  She tried to do whatever she could do to help and make people “happy”. “Her motto” was to do at least one good deed every day.

She leaves to mourn daughter’s Renee , Lynnette, son Barry Parker, four grandsons Jonathan, Cal, Barry Jr. and Carlik. One grand daughter Kurshell and Three great granddaughter’s Jasmine Renae,Sydney Jordan, London Devin
