Michael James Small was born May 24, 1963 at Philadelphia General Hospital in Philadelphia, PA to his late loving parents Kenneth and Carolyn Small. Michael went home to be with the Lord on September 28,2022.
Everyone knew that Michael was a Mama’s Boy and a very fast talker!
Michael received his formal education in the Philadelphia Public School System.
Michael accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. He attended Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church where he served as an Acolyte. Later Michael visited several Churches and participated in a few ministries. He decided to make Bibleway Freewill Baptist Church his church home.
During Michael’s youth, he was a born leader to his close friends. Michael started playing football at a young age which quickly became one of his favorite sports and played football all throughout high school. During his football career Michael received numerous trophies and played semi-pro football with the Giants for several years. He then retired his jersey and picked up his coaching hat and coached at Ivy Hill Saints where he was affectionately called “Coach Mike”.
In his past time, Michael enjoyed deep sea fishing with his parents and friends. He had a love for collecting Hess trucks, football men figurines, miniature antique cars and helmets. He loved to collect coins as well. He also would care for his many pets including his turtle.
Michael entered the workforce as a teenager while working at a corner store. During his many years of employment, he held several positions; retail, construction and security. He landed a job at Daimler Chrysler alongside his father. Michael worked there until their closing. He later joined the Emmanuel Johnson Funeral Home where he worked until he started to develop health issues.
He leaves to mourn four children, Michael Jr., Terelle, Brianna, Kristen. One God- daughter, Heaven. Five grandchildren. Four siblings Brian (Peanut), Juanita who preceded him in death, Teresa, Wanda, one brother- in- law, Roger. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and very close friends.
