Richard Mitchell, Jr., passed away suddenly in his sleep on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at the home of his father in Philadelphia, PA. He was 52.
Richard “Rich” Mitchell, Jr. was born on March 7, 1968, in Philadelphia, PA. He was one of four children, born to Richard Mitchell, Sr. and Vernell L. Mitchell. Rich grew up in Philadelphia, PA. He was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and attended Olney High School.
In the early years after high school, Rich traveled extensively as a Boxer. He later held several positions in Security. But Rich truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. He pursued many interests – which included watching his lifelong favorite football team, the Washington Football Team (formerly known as the Washington Redskins).
He was heavily involved in the local community and was very proud of his volunteer work with the churches. But what he enjoyed most was spending time with his family and friends and touching the lives of many with his everyday acts of kindness. His life can be defined as a giver. Rich will be remembered for his fun-loving personality, his wildly entertaining stories, his generous smile, and his willingness to come at any time to help anyone in need — he was as kind as they come.
Rich was preceded in death by his mother, Vernell L. Mitchell.
He is survived by his two children, daughter, Takeyshia Crowder and grandson Davion; son, Amir Harper and granddaughter Suri; father, Richard Mitchell, Sr; two sisters, Antionette Mitchell and Marci Urbanek and husband Mark; one brother, Ernest Mitchell and wife Jamaica; and his many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless other relatives and friends.
Richard “Rich, Cheetah Man” was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by his family, friends, community and all who knew him.
