Life Reflections
On Sunday, August 7, 2022 God’s angel of mercy visited Einstein Medical Center and lovingly transitioned Samuel Fulton, Jr. to his heavenly resting place.
He was born on September 5, 1949 to the late Curlee V. Fulton and the late Samuel Fulton, Sr. in Kingstree, South Carolina. Matriculating through the schools of Williamsburg County, he graduated from Tomlinson High School in 1967. He was baptized at Old Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Kingstree.
In search of opportunity and to build a wonderful new life, Samuel eagerly - upon graduation - moved to New York City in 1967 and, soon thereafter, to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There, he met his lifelong partner and the love of his life, his wife, the late Priscilla Ann Wright. He started his career at Quartermaster Bedding Corporation where he was a loyal member of the Steel Workers’ Union. He subsequently worked for other business entities in Maintenance and finished his career as a Utility Worker and dedicated employee of the Philadelphia School District.
Affectionately known as “Mr. Sam” to many and “Boy” to others, truly to know him is to love him. Everyone who knew him could agree that he was one of the most loving, caring, kind-hearted and non-judgmental persons they have ever met. A mere five-minute conversation with him would reveal that he should’ve been a standup comedian; his natural sense of humor made everyone buckle over in laughter! Spend another half hour with him and you will appreciate his awesome cooking skills - the man could really cook! An avid lover of all sports, Sam was a true Philly-teams fanatic. There was no interruption in the appointed viewing of his beloved Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers basketball games; his Philadelphia Eagles football games; and, his Philadelphia Phillies baseball games. He loved this city and the city loved him back -- from the neighborhood kids who thought of him a “dad”, to his fellow members of New Gethsemane Baptist Church - they all held a fondness for “Mr. Sam.” This dedicated father and husband even once played in the West Philly Baseball League and, when he wasn’t playing, he could “cut a rug” on the dance floor! Sam, a jack-of-all-trades, will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Priscilla Ann Wright-Fulton; his parents, Samuel and Curlee Fulton; his sister, Carolyn Diane Fulton and his nephew, Matthew G. Tucker.
Loved ones left to forever cherish his memory are: His loving children, daughters, Shameka Wright of Atlanta, GA and Sandra D. Wright of Philadelphia, PA and son, Stefford Fulton of Philadelphia, PA; sisters, Donice F. Mayes Jackson and Dorinda F. Taylor of Kingstree, SC; Debbie F. (Allen) Muldrow of Florence, SC and Dana F. Tucker of Columbia, SC; brothers Kenneth Fulton and Andre’ J. Fulton of Florence, SC; grandchildren, Shaquita Davenport, Shaquille Davenport, Danee’ Cartwright, Symere Davenport, Sianni Davenport, Desmond Fulton, Daequan Wright, and Triston Fulton. He also leaves to cherish one aunt, Carlena Whiteside of Philadelphia, PA; two uncles, Neal Vernon of Andrews, SC and Abraham Fulton of Hollywood, FL. He leaves his in-laws: Clinton Brinkley of Richmond, VA; Samuel Wright of Alabama; Andrew Wright of Allentown, PA; Lucille Sullivan of Philadelphia, PA; Juanita Wright of Sacramento, CA; and Ada Bundy of North Carolina. He also leaves to cherish his memory, his best friend, Benjamin Dandy of Philadelphia, PA, and a host of wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
