Shawn Marie April Young was born April 1, 1978 to Carol Young and Curtis Alexander. She was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System, graduating from Olney High School in 1996. Shawn worked in retail before becoming a correctional officer with the Philadelphia Prison System in 1999; she was a correctional officer for fourteen years.
Shawn had a very infectious laugh which made everyone around her laugh as well. Shawn loved food and was known for buying birthday cakes for herself even though it wasn’t her birthday. She was straightforward, fun and loving. She loved dancing, being a jokester and listening to music, especially Biggie Smalls – she loved singing his songs! Her daughters and her grandson were her world.
Shawn was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Marie Young; grandmothers, Wilma Fisher and Doris Alexander; grandfathers, Robert Alexander and Carl Fisher; four uncles, Wendell Alexander, Keith Alexander, Darrell Young and Melvin Young. She leaves to cherish fond memories, her parents, Carol Young and Curtis Alexander; stepfather, Darrell Parker; brothers, Kyree Jackson, Terrell Young and Mark Jackson; sister, Latifah Beckwith; daughters, Jada Smith Young and Tierre Marie Young; grandson, King Santana Naseem Smith and a host of other loving family and friends.
