Thomas Moore, Jr. Obituary

Thomas Quinton Moore, Jr. was born October 15, 1992, in Philadelphia Pennsylvania to Thomas Moore, Sr. and the late Rhonda Clanton. Thomas was one of seven children, including Kyle, Tiana, Aaron, Ashley, Briana, and Thabis, whom he loved dearly.

Thomas has adopted many nicknames, Boo-Boo, Boob, and Tommy, among others throughout his life.  He was athletic, energetic, full of life, and enjoyed traveling.  Serving the community was also important to Thomas as he coached the Bustleton Bengals junior basketball squad. As a child, Thomas grew up on Wister Street in Philadelphia’s West Oak Lane section, where he discovered his love for basketball.  As a youngster, he was always bouncing or shooting a basketball in his spare time, even if he had to do it alone.  As he developed his skillset, he began playing on many neighborhood teams, most notably, at Simons Recreation Center.

As a result of Thomas outstanding basketball skills in his freshman year at Martin Luther King High School, he attended Mathematics, Civics, and Science Charter School (MCS), where he won his first high school basketball championship. After high school, he attended Globe Institute of Technology in New York and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Information Technology (IT) and Computer Applications. Upon receipt of his Associates, Thomas transferred to Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. He actively pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and was a basketball player on the university’s team.  As you can see, he had a passion for basketball.  Basketball kept Thomas engaged, focused and disciplined.  At the time of his passing Thomas was training for an international opportunity. Basketball allowed him to meet new friends who became like family.

At the beginning of his professional career, Thomas was employed at the Philadelphia Parking Authority for nearly two years, where he held several positions.   In early 2018, Thomas began employment at the City’s Commissioner Office.  His responsibilities were vast, which included the installation and training of the new voting equipment at various locations throughout the city.  Thomas enjoyed his role at the City Commissioner’s Office and was a proud and dedicated staff member.  He understood the necessity of voting and having officials in office that understood the needs and concerns of the citizens of Philadelphia.

Thomas lived a good life and we are forever grateful for the time we had with him. As a family, we plan to keep his memory alive every holiday, social gathering, and family events. He is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.  He is also survived by his loving fiancée Alexis Barton whom he too, genuinely loved and adored. Thomas leaves behind lifelong friends from Simons Recreation Center; Martin Luther King High School; Mathematics, Civics and Sciences Charter School; Globe Institute of Technology; Mansfield University; and countless others from both the West Oak Lane and basketball communities. He also developed new friendships while working at the Philadelphia Parking Authority and City Commissioner’s Office. Thomas was loved and admired by everyone that knew him and he will forever be missed.
