Tyrone Crawley, Sr Obituary

Tyrone Hayward Crawley Sr. better known as Tyrone “Butterfly” Crawley was born to the late Robert and Dorothy Crawley on November 2, 1958 in Philadelphia, PA.

Tyrone received his education in the Philadelphia Public School System. After graduating from Olney High School, he enlisted in the United States Army. During his time in the army he was a Paratrooper and an All Army Boxing Champion.

Upon his honorable discharge from the army Tyrone’s interest in boxing continued. As an amateur he was a Golden Gloves Champion. He turned Pro in October 1980 and only in his ninth pro fight he won the ESPN Lightweight title in September 1982. Tyrone went on to have a successful boxing career and he retired from boxing in 1988. He was inducted into the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame in 2002 and was also inducted as a member of the 2010 Class of the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of Fame.

Tyrone joined the Philadelphia Police Department during the summer of 1986. He was the supervisor at the 23rd Police Athletic League( PAL). He had such a positive influence on many in the community especially the boys and young men. He was a leader, a mentor, a motivator an advisor and most of all a father figure to many. Tyrone thoroughly enjoyed working the kids and the people in the community. He retired from the department in 2014.

Tyrone accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was baptized on May 28, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Huntingdon Valley. Tyrone grew to love and depend on the Lord.

Sadly, Tyrone departed this life on Friday January 15, 2021. He leaves to carry on his legacy: his wife, Gina; one daughter, Ageenah Ford (Walter); two sons, Tyrone Jr.; Kevin; granddaughter, Skyyler; three sisters, Loran Petty (Bruce); Karen Nutter (Lawrence); Lavada Crawley; two brothers, Derrick Jerome; mother-in-law, Sheila Tolliver; two sister-in-laws, Aprile Tolliver; Vernice Benvenutti (Carlos); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
